About the Lodge

Surrounded by fields, trees and fresh air the Logpile Lodge is situated on 160 private acres (~64 ha) overlooking the beautiful Bulkley Valley. Right between the lively town of Smithers and the superb 32,000 hectares Babine Mountain Provincial Park the Lodge is the ideal place to start exciting trips into the outdoors or stay at home relaxing, reading, unwinding with a glass of wine.

Barbara and Christoph Luther and their three children have called the Bulkley Valley home since 1993. Smithers seems to be a magnet to people who have travelled far and seen many different places but chose the Bulkley Valley to settle and raise their children. The great surroundings as well as the easy access to the Telkwa and Howsen Range, Dome Mountain Area, Seaton Range, our house mountain the Hudson Bay Mountain, the numerous world class rivers such as the Babine, the Skeena, the Bulkley, the Morice, the Kispiox, the unique Nass Valley, the Babine Lake ... the list goes on ... have captured the hearts of many outdoor enthusiasts. And their children - the next generation - is brought up with the same appreciation for nature. A large number of our guests from all over the world have been amazed to find this great combination of wilderness and civilization.

Surrounded by farmland and forests, right at the edge to wilderness you can walk numerous trails. Some of these trails the cows and horses created, some of them the moose and deer use and every so often you will see a black bear, wolves and coyotes. The animals are very shy and are usually gone before you even get close to them. The forest and fields invite you to relax and be active. Nature supplies us with morels, wild raspberries, saskatoons and wild onions and enchants us with wild orchids, arnica, columbine, Indian paintbrushes, wild roses in abundance - sometimes it is so unbelievably beautiful you just want to sit down and soak it all in! If you own a paintbrush and some paint it'd be the perfect setting!

Like an eagle's nest the Lodge is nestled on a rocky hill, overlooking the valley. It is a massive log/post and beam structure with cathedral ceilings throughout the building and finished in hemlock fir, balsam fir, spruce, pine and red cedar wood.
